What is Direct Parts Marking(DPM)?

Direct Parts Marking (DPM) codes are identifying marks, typically DataMatrix 2D barcodes, that are applied directly to parts. These permanent codes allow tractability and identification throughout the life of the part.

From large codes on automotive parts to microscopic codes on LCD panels and printed circuit boards and the varied technologies to mark them, DPM codes are possibly the most varied in the industry.

Technologies used to mark products include laser etching, chemically etching, dot peen marking and inkjet printing. Each technology has its own strengths and weaknesses and choosing a handheld code reader can be a challenge of its own.

MCR-H700 Models

The MCR-H700 is the general use DPM code reader. It can read codes with cell sizes down to 0.1mm.

The MCR-H710 has an increased Depth of Field(DOF) and reading width, enabling reading larger codes and cell sizes down to 0.125mm.

The MCR-H720 is the ultra-small DPM code reader. The standard version can read cell sizes down to 40um(0.04mm) and with an attachment, down to 25um (0.025mm).

The MCR-H700 series is the accumulation of decades of industry experience and years of iterative design. Previously difficult to read codes on PCBs, metal, plastic and glass are easier to read than ever before. With its decoder software and illumination specially designed for challenging DPM codes.

View window for easy alignment

See what you are doing! On many substrates, the closer the reader to the subject the better. With a large, polycarbonate viewing window and pointer illumination, alignment has never been easier.

The MCR-H720 includes a 4x magnifier and reflector sight for ultra small codes found on PCBs and LCD glass.

Multiple integrated illumination types

With three types of integrated illumination and the ability to fine-tune each source, you can ensure that the best image possible is captured. The complexity added by having many settings can be daunting to new users. That is why the MCR-H700 series can be automatically adjusted and brings us to our next section.

Automatic adjustment with onboard preset storage

Metals, plastics, glass and many other substrates have unique challenges that require equally unique illumination types and sensor / decoder settings.

The MCR-H700 series utilizes automatic tuning mode and simple to use setup software to ensure readability.

With storage for multiple settings, the best settings can be recalled with the push of a button or the reader can loop through the settings automatically for simple “point and pull” operation.

Available with Serial with PLC link, USB, or Bluetooth interfaces

The MCR-H700 series can be ordered in R, U and B varieties.

MCR-7X0R is supplied with a serial cable and external AC adapter. The serial interface can be used in traditional serial mode or PLC link mode for use with many PLCs.

MCR-7X0U is supplied with a USB cable, works in HID(wedge) mode and can be powered by a PC.

MCR-7X0B is a wireless, bluetooth version with built in battery and Bluetooth Class2 radio. 10 meters line-of-sight communications and up to 12 hours of battery life. A wall/desk mounted charging stand and bluetooth receiver is available as an optional upgrade.
